Ken's Birthday and a 6 month check up

we all had a great time at kens' 40th birthday oyster extravaganza as you can see. the weather was perfect for raw and bbq'ed along with some beautiful fish and delicious tres leche cake.

she had her 6 month check up last friday. the nurse put her in the 90th %. when the doc came in she said 'did i miss her 6 month check up?' 'no,' i repllied - 'this IS her 6 month check up, why?'
the nurse had written on the chart that she was 9 months old since that's what she appeared to be to her. when we adjusted for 6 months she was way off the charts at 21 lbs 8 oz and over 27 inches long. she is well proportioned, ahead of her age for sitting up, grabbing things and very alert. she's a bit behind in rolling over, but as the doc said - there's just a lot of her to roll over. she got the usual shots plus a flu shot and was pretty wiped out that night.

she's on to green beans this week and liking them a lot more than the sweet potatoes. she's digging her soccer ball and hates turtling since she still can't roll over too well.

hannah got back on schedule after sort of a rough week at daycare over the weekend, only to nap not so great on monday. today (tuesday) however she slept for 2.5 hours and straight through a fire drill. she's generally sleeping from 7:30 - 6:30 am with the occasional 4 am wake up. considering i've talked to parents of many 1 year olds who's darlings wake up every 2 hours i feel pretty good.

A Haircut, Ciara's 2nd Birthday and a list widget

it was a VERY busy weekend. after a mellow friday night i left early for a mountain bike ride while jackie took hannah for a great walk, her first haircut and some quality time with allison.
i had to get home early since carlson was flying up from SoCal to purchase the motorbike and drive it home. the sale was successful - end of an era for sure. i have not lived in california and not had a motorcycle since the 80s.

saturday night we rallied for an impromptu dinner with tracy, katherine and the twins to wish katherine a happy birthday! i managed to squeeze in hot tub while tracy was making some fabulous clams and salmon.

sunday morning was ciara howard's 2nd birthday! a grand time was had by all as you can see. hannah wore her little black dress and then slept through most of the celebrations upstairs. it was great to see all the kids we rarely see.

you may notice the iframe or little widget on the right hand margin. my former colleague monica is working on a concept to add lists via facebook to your blogs - check it out and i'll pass feed back along to monica.

the weeks been rolling along pretty well, except for hannah waking up at 2 last night and crying off and on for an hour until jack fed her (thank god). hopefully tonight will go better as she had 4 naps. can't wait to talk to the doc at her 6 month checkup this friday regarding how much she should be eating given her weight (which will also be interesting to find out).

Back to Work Week

tim and supriya came up for their and jackie's 10 year law school reunion. the food was amazing at the st. francis (at least when we finally got down to michael minna and i got a lovely tuna tartare! hannah stayed home with matt the manny. supriya's looking fab and due in jan! tim's just lookin fab.

well it's been a week of commuting all together and the 3 of us are still talking to each other, so that's a good sign of things to come!
hannah caught another cold her first week back which unfortunately has manifested itself in several ways
  • she was having a bit of trouble eating as she couldn't breath through her nose
  • she wound up swallowing quite a bit of mucous which led to several bouts of excorist like vomiting, which combined with her throaty breathing was very horror film like
  • she promptly gave it to mom and dad and while dad got over it pretty quickly mom is still suffering and drinking thera-flu cocktails
she has not missed a day of daycare, however and she has bounced back pretty well. we just need to get mom better now.

i got very warm welcomes back at work from everyone. a lot of folks couldn't believe it had been 3 months since i left. a lot was accomplished while i was out and the general consensus is that work will slow down considerably upon my return.

it's been great to to be able to check in on hannah from time to time. today i happened to get there just as she was starting a bottle, so i fed her and put her down for a nap. we sometimes fear that since hannah is so low maintenance she will not get as much attention as the um, er, louder kids. i go back and forth on this one as i love it that she can entertain herself, especially in the morning which can get me an extra 15 minutes of snooze time after jackie feeds her and heads to the shower.

Back to work eve...

Day 2 v Day 72

'twas the night before work
and all through the house not a creature was stirring, except for the dishwasher full of bottles...
and jackie looking over my shoulder and denying it.

hard to believe it's been 3 months and she's still kicking! it's been an amazing time, and like jackie sez, no one knows hannah like i do right now, which is pretty freaky and pretty freakin' cool.

she's been a star at daycare the past 2 half days. the teachers all say that if there were 8 more like her they would only need 1 teacher. she's all laughs and smiles there, just like she is at home.

alas dear reader, you may be wondering BUT WHAT ABOUT THE BLOG?!? THE BLOG CAN'T JUST END!!!
well we'll just have to see about that won't we :-)
seriously, it's been great to know that i was not alone these past couple months, especially the comment posters but even the lurkers who i run into and say 'how's the pooper's pooper?' just out of the blue.

blogging has indeed become a mild addiction and i intend to keep it up, so please check back from time to time as i believe hannah will be changing quite a bit in the next couple months and you won't want to miss it. i'll try to spare the details of returning to work.

again, thanks for enjoying this time with hannah and me.
mahalo!

Hannah goes to Hawaii

aloha!
hannah had a great time in hawaii as you can see. she went in the pool and the ocean for the first time.
the wymer-tines had a great time too - taytum took some great pictures and rae helped take care of hannah.
we got to do some snorkeling spellling tracy and katherine and taking turns watching the grommets.
we found a great fish market and grilled almost every night overlooking the ocean.
while hawaii is not as relaxing with a 6 month old as without, a great time was had by all.
it is bittersweet however as it marks the end of my leave and the beginning of daycare for hannah. i pushed back my start day to wednesday at jackie's suggestion which was a great idea as it's hard to imagine being back in the cube today. bunch of errands to run while hannah spends a few hours at school.
as the yanks clinch, the mets crumble and the ny football giants rally the bittersweetness is everywhere in the air.
